Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Project 613
Special Concrete Deliveries for a Special Project...
On November 7, 2008 Schuster Concrete supplied the first batch of concrete for project number 613, an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Our participation in this project included the donation of all concrete for the footers, poured concrete walls, basement slab, garage slab, and the front porch. We supplied two 8.5 bag mixes — both air entrained concrete and non-air mixes — that consisted of cement supplied by Lehigh Cement out of Union Bridge, MD; #57 stone from the Martin Marietta Pinesburg Quarry; Reliable sand from Crofton, MD; and admixtures supplied by BASF Admixtures, which gave us a supper accelerator (POZZUTEC 20+), that was added at the job site for a safe, yet very rapid set. We supplied 10 yards of footer mix at 5:00 pm and the foundation crews set the wall panels on it only 30 minutes after placement. The foundation walls used 63 yards of concrete, which was poured starting at 8:00 pm. The wall crews came back at 3:00 am and stripped the wall panel forms. The basement slab, which used 16 yards of concrete, was poured at 6:00 am on Monday November 8th, 2008. The garage floor was poured at 8:30 am and then the final front porch was poured at 1:30 pm. The mixes we used were both pumpable for speed and ease of placement. This house was built for the Drumm family, in South Mountain, PA. The primary contractor was Dan Ryan Builders. All concrete for this project was supplied by Schuster Concrete, from the Hagerstown, MD plant, which covers the Western Maryland region, Pennsylvania and West Virginia markets.
The Drumm Family episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was originally broadcast on January 18th 2009.
